The Truth About Epoxy Yellowing and What We Use Now

Better materials. Better results. Here’s what we use now.

Choosing the Best Products for Long-Term Beauty & Durability

At Artisan Design Concepts, we’re committed to delivering high-quality, long-lasting epoxy countertops, wall panels, and artistic surfaces. That commitment means we’re constantly testing new materials and improving our process. Over the years we primarily used popular brands like Stonecoat Countertops —but as our projects evolved and our standards increased, we realized it was time for a change.

Why We No Longer Use Stonecoat Countertops Epoxy

For years, Stonecoat was one of the most well-known names in DIY epoxy. And while their brand recognition is strong, we began to experience major issues with yellowing and inconsistencies in product quality. These challenges not only affected the finished look of our projects but also raised concerns about long-term durability and customer satisfaction.

We’re not here to bash one company—in fact, many well-known epoxy brands such as Countertop Epoxy, Leggari, and others fall short when it comes to UV stability, working time, and clarity. The truth is, most mass-marketed epoxies use similar base resins that simply can’t hold up under sunlight, heat, or time.

Enter: PolyKote – Our Preferred Resin for Non-Yellowing, Crystal-Clear Results

We’ve since transitioned to PolyKote from Savage Patriot Polymers, a high-performance polyaspartic hybrid resin that outperforms traditional epoxy in almost every category. Here’s why we now use PolyKote Pro and Enhanced formulas for most of our countertops and vertical applications:

  • True Non-Yellowing Formula
PolyKote features industry-leading UV blockers and advanced stabilizers, ensuring your whites stay white and your clear finishes remain crystal clear—even in sunlit spaces.
  • Rock-Hard Durability
It cures faster and stronger than epoxy, making it more resistant to scratches, impact, and daily wear.
  • Superior Clarity and Shine
The glass-like finish enhances depth and detail in our metallic and marble-inspired designs.
  • Faster Turnaround
With a shorter cure time than epoxy, we can deliver finished projects to clients quicker—without compromising quality.

When Epoxy Still Makes Sense—and Why We Use EpoxyKote

While PolyKote is our go-to for most projects, there are still times when traditional epoxy is the better fit—such as for darker colored designs or to achieve specific effects that use alcohol such as the Hammered Copper look. But we’re no longer settling for subpar materials.

When we do need to use epoxy, we now exclusively use EpoxyKote—the highest-grade countertop epoxy we’ve tested to date. Here’s what sets it apart:

  • Industry-Leading UV Stability
EpoxyKote features next-gen UV absorbers and HALS stabilizers that dramatically reduce yellowing over time.
  • Longer Working Time (45–50 minutes at ~70°F)
Gives us the flexibility to achieve complex, layered designs without rushing.
  • Bubble-Free, Self-Leveling Formula
Smooth finishes, fewer touch-ups, and a flawless final product.
  • Available in 1, 2, and 4-Gallon Kits
Great for both small artistic pours and large-scale applications.

We’ve tested other products from Stonecoat, Leggari, Countertop Epoxy, and others, and EpoxyKote comes out on top for professional-grade performance and clarity.
