When our client decided to refresh her kitchen, she removed the existing cabinet and microwave unit and wanted to open up the space with clean, modern shelving. But this change left a gap where the crown moulding used to meet, and the solution required a custom touch. That’s where our Artisan Handyman Division stepped in.
Step 1: Designing & Installing Custom Floating Shelves
For the shelving, the homeowner wanted something more substantial than simple open-bottom shelves. We built custom floating box shelves out of solid Poplar wood, giving each shelf both a top and bottom for a clean, furniture-grade finish. This design not only added strength and durability but also created a polished look that blends seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen’s style. These shelves provide both function and style, giving the homeowner a place to showcase cookbooks, décor, and everyday items without overwhelming the space.
Step 2: Custom Range Hood Cover
To tie the look together, we crafted a custom range hood cover in a matching finish. This not only hides the vent system but also adds a streamlined focal point above the stovetop, bringing warmth and balance to the wall of cabinetry.
Step 3: Complete Crown Moulding Replacement
The biggest challenge was the crown moulding. Since the old moulding couldn’t be matched exactly, we replaced all of the kitchen crown moulding with a fresh, cohesive design. This gave the entire room a seamless, finished appearance that elevated the look far beyond just a shelving upgrade.
